Florian Matt, ERT; MSc. Biology; BSc. Economics

Online profiles

Florian Matt has been working as a toxicologist in the medical device industry for over six years. He has extensive experience in biological safety assessments and regulatory clearance of medical devices, having previously worked at Smith & Nephew and the Straumann Group. At these companies, he further developed biological safety management systems and conducted biological safety and toxicological risk assessments for newly developed products and manufacturing process changes. He has also led the regulatory MDR clearance of biocompatibility assessments for a variety of orthopedic instruments and implants, coordinating the required chemical analytical and non-clinical testing.

Drawing from his experience as a Quality Assurance Specialist in the trending and risk management department of a pharmaceutical company, he brings a solid understanding of quality management systems and working in a highly regulated environment.

During his studies and research activities, Florian worked in various disciplines of toxicology, ranging from in vitro toxicology to real-world epidemiological studies. At the Chair of In Vitro Toxicology and Biomedicine at the University of Konstanz, he developed a novel in vitro method to examine neuron-specific toxicity and further developed an air-liquid exposure system for examining therapeutic aerosols during his diploma thesis. Additionally, he earned the title of Scientific Specialist in Toxicology through a postgraduate degree at the University of Leipzig, achieved registration as a European toxicologist (ERT), and worked at the Centre for Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona, where he authored a publication on the cardiorespiratory health effects of traffic-related air pollution.

Florian’s early research activities sparked his interest in data science and quantitative research, leading him to pursue a secondary course of study in Economics. He has experience in processing and analyzing cross-sectional, time-series, and panel data, which he put into practice while collaborating on a real-world crossover study at the Centre for Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona.
